- The Biggest Threat to Humanity Isn’t AI or Climate Change: According to Musk, the declining birth rate is the world’s number one risk. He compares the current scenario to the fall of the Roman Empire and warns that society will collapse without children. Leading by example, he has 14 children and wants more.
- Family Strife and the Culture War: Not all is harmonious within Musk’s “legion” of 14 children. He is estranged from his 22-year-old transgender daughter, Vivian. The billionaire blames elite universities and “Neo-Marxism” for the rift, claiming these institutions teach that “if you’re rich, you’re evil.”

Elon Musk, 55, CEO of Tesla and one of the most influential figures in the world, is once again sparking heated debate after claiming that feminism and the choice not to have children are destroying human happiness. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the billionaire doubled down on his concerns about population decline and argued that having children is essential for personal fulfillment and the survival of civilization.

Musk: The Low Birth Rate Crisis Is the Greatest Threat to Humanity
For years, Musk has warned that falling birth rates represent a greater risk to humanity than climate change or even artificial intelligence. He frequently cites the collapse of historical empires, such as the Roman Empire, to show how societies decline when people stop having children.
“Most people still think the world is overpopulated. In reality, it’s the opposite,” Musk says.
To him, people who don’t have children “have no stake in the future.” With 14 children of his own, the entrepreneur practices what he preaches and views family as one of the fundamental pillars of civilization.
AI Could Surprisingly Increase Birth Rates
In 2025, Musk made a bold and counterintuitive prediction: artificial intelligence will increase the birth rate. According to him, AI “will destroy the human limbic system,” but at the same time, it can be programmed to encourage more births.
“I predict it will boost the birth rate! Mark my words. Plus, we’re going to program it to make that happen,” he declared.
This vision combines his pessimism about demographic collapse with his signature technological optimism.
Musk’s Personal Life: A “Legion” of Children
Musk isn’t just talking theory. He is the father of 14 children:
- Six children with his ex-wife Justine Wilson (including the late Nevada Alexander);
- Three children with singer Grimes;
- Four children with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis;
- One child with writer Ashley St. Clair.
He has said he wants to have a “truly gigantic number” of children “before the apocalypse” and has even mentioned using surrogates to build a real “legion” — a reference to a large Roman military unit.
Musk sees his children as a direct contribution to fighting the sub-population crisis threatening humanity’s future.
The Conflict with Daughter Vivian and Musk’s View on “Neo-Marxism”
Not all of Musk’s family story is harmonious. He has a tense and distant relationship with his 22-year-old daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. In 2022, Vivian petitioned the court to legally change her name and gender, took her mother’s surname (Wilson), and publicly stated that she no longer wished to be associated with her father in any way.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Musk attributed the estrangement to the influence of “neo-Marxists” at elite schools and universities, which he says promote the communist idea that “if you’re rich, you’re evil.” Despite this, he claims to have “very good relationships” with his other children and acknowledges: “You can’t win them all.”
Why This Matters: Elon Musk’s Urgent Warning
Musk repeats tirelessly: “One of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapid decline of that rate. If people stop having children, civilization will collapse.”
Musk points to Japan as a glaring warning: the country is suffering from rapid population aging and one of the world’s lowest birth rates — a concrete example of the challenges many nations will face in the coming decades.
By connecting feminism, happiness, and demographics, Musk forces society to confront an uncomfortable question: Are we sacrificing the future in the name of ideologies and individual lifestyles?
