Xiaomi has launched the Laser Projector 3, its latest laser projector featuring true 4K resolution, smart design, and a range of features aimed at those seeking a home cinema experience without breaking the bank.
Already available in China since July 10, the model is priced at 4,399 yuan (around $599 USD). It impresses by combining advanced technologies in a compact, functional design, bringing together image quality, smart capabilities, and modern connectivity in one device.
Crisp Image on a Large Scale
The standout feature of the Xiaomi Laser Projector 3 is its ability to project up to 120 inches (roughly 3 meters) with true 4K resolution, thanks to a 0.47-inch DMD chip. Its pure RGB laser light source delivers vibrant colors, covering 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut, while the 1,600:1 contrast ratio ensures deep blacks and sharp details — ideal for darker environments.
The projector offers 1,000 CVIA lumens of brightness. While this unit isn’t yet internationally standardized, it is generally suitable for home use in dark rooms. It’s worth noting that CVIA, a metric created by the Chinese industry, does not directly compare to ANSI lumens used by Western manufacturers.
Smart Design and Automatic Adjustments
The device includes a built-in gimbal with up to 130-degree tilt, making it easy to adjust the angle. It also features an 8×8-point ToF (Time-of-Flight) module and an HD camera, which, together with AI algorithms, automatically adjust the image and correct distortions (keystone correction).
It’s a fully standalone device: powered by a quad-core MT9667 processor, with 3GB RAM and 64GB of storage, the projector runs apps and plays content without needing any external devices. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, HDMI 2.1 with eARC, USB, and a 3.5mm audio output.
Powerful Sound with Dolby Audio
The sound system features two 8W speakers, four passive acoustic panels, and a reinforced rear cavity. With Dolby Audio and a digital amplifier, the sound is clear, immersive, and strong enough for medium-sized rooms — no need for external speakers.
Comparison with High-Performance Models
While the Xiaomi Laser Projector 3 delivers great value for money, it still belongs to the entry-level category.
A good point of comparison is the Epson Pro Cinema LS12000, a high-end laser projector that delivers 2,700 ANSI lumens — a globally recognized and standardized unit of brightness.
The LS12000 projects in 4K PRO-UHD, offering superior contrast and optimized performance for any environment, including well-lit rooms.
